Answer

Please note that this article applies to ODE (70305) and ODE POE (70306) only

My ODE does not turn on ?

Please double check that the power supply used is the one supplied with the unit. (7.5V, 1.6A)
We do not recommend any other power supply to be used with these units.

ODE with POE (70306) :
please make sure that a POE enabled switch or POE injector is used to supply power to the ODE.

My ODE does not output DMX ?

Please test with NMU - ENTTEC provides this free utility to send Test Art-Net sequences to the ODE
NMU is available for both Windows and Mac. It can be used to setup the ODE and send Art-Net to it.
Download NMU here

Please make sure that with NMU, ODE is set as :

  • Correct protocol Art-Net or ESP (if not sure, use Art-Net)
  • Correct universe (if not sure use 0)
  • Output Mode (important: has to be set as output to output DMX)
  • IP address (within range of your network address)

What is the Default IP address of my ODE ?

ODE is shipped with a factory set IP address based on the Serial No.
Serial No. is located at the back of the unit or printed on the box

ODE not found on my network ?

Please connect directly using a cat5 cable to your computer:

  • Give your computer a Static IP address (10.0.0.1)
  • Change Subnet mask to (255.0.0.0)
  • Connect ODE now
  • Now use NMU to select the correct network (10.0.0.1)
  • If you have multiple networks (wifi etc.), please try to disable all other networks except the one ODE is connected to.
  • Once NMU finds the ODE, change the IP address as needed

ODE Networking Tips

Networking Tips:

  • ODE is shipped with a static IP address starting with 10.x.x.x
  • Use NMU to change the IP address, Art-Net Universe that ODE listens to, and protocol (Art-Net or ESP)
  • Your controller iDevice/PC/Mac and the ODE must be on the same network (preferably using same router/switch)
  • Use ODE and your controller on the same subnet (same network address range)
  • Unicast rather than broadcast for better network performance (Advanced settings in your controller)

NMU does not find ODE on Mac OSX ?

Connect using a cat5 cable direct to your Mac:

  • ODE is shipped with a static IP address starting with 10.x.x.x
  • To troubleshoot, it's best to assign a static IP address to your Mac ( 10.0.0.1 )

  • If needed, reboot ODE after changing IP address of Mac
  • Turn off Wifi if you still can't find it using NMU
  • Start NMU app, and select the right network when prompted
  • NMU will now be able to find ODE on the network
  • Use NMU to change the IP address, Art-Net Universe that ODE listens to, and protocol (Art-Net or ESP)

How do I setup ODE with Luminair ?

1. Make sure you are using the latest version of Luminair App
http://synthe-fx.com

2. Both your iDevice and the ODE must be on the same network (preferably using same router).
For Airport Express users, please refer to this helpful guide

3. If you still seem to have problems, use a static IP address on your ODE which is in close range to the iDevice's IP address.
For example, configure your ODE so the first 2 octets match on both devices (ex. 10.7.X.X)
The illustration below is an example of how it might look. Your network may require slightly different numbers but the pattern should be similar. This screen can be found under the Status Menu of Luminair:

4. If broadcast/multicast does not seem to work with Luminair, use Unicast:
Select Artnet under Status Menu, and turn on Unicast for the selected node:

Why do my lights flicker with ODE ?

It is possible that your lights don't support full refresh rates of DMX (40 fps and above)
You can lower the DMX refresh rate (closer to 25 fps is ideal) on your ODE using firmware 2.3. Please use NMU to change the firmware

Please ensure only one controller is sending Art-Net to ODE at a time. Competing sources might give the ODE instructions that conflict with each other, leading to a rapid oscillation between levels.

Will ODE show up in the software I use ?

ODE supports Art-Net and will only appear as an Art-Net node under the software that support Art-Net too.
Please contact the support of the software you are using for more details.

Does ODE support merging ?

ODE supports HTP Merge

  • ODE will merge 2 (or 6 with optional plugin) Ethernet sources.
  • ODE will detect the sender IP and if it receives another packet on the same universe with a different IP it will merge the 2 in HTP fashion.
  • If a 3rd source (or 7th with the plugin) is detected the oldest source is removed from the merge (FIFO).
  • To clear the HTP merge you must power cycle the ODE, this follows DMX standard where a receiver must hold it's last state.

Is ODE isolated like DMX USB PRO?

All Ethernet devices are isolated by their very nature, all Ethernet links are magnetically coupled which means you have 1000V isolation between the DMX line and Ethernet line
However it is advised to use a DMX opto-splitter wherever possible to protect ODE from unwanted electric signals.

I am having problem with Artnet or another protocol and ODE ?

We can try to help you but please include a full network capture using Wireshark and send your email to support(at)enttec.com Wireshark is a free network monitor tool that captures all network data, you can download it form www.wireshark.org MAC, PC and Linux versions are available.

Please capture a few minutes of full network traffic when the problem occurs, save the data from wireshark and send us the CAP file it creates.
